Custom Rods Over the past 30 years Captain Ed Martin has built everything from 3 weight fly rods for 5 inch Brook Trout to 130lb IGFA bent butt regulation Marlin rods. He's accumulated extensive experience having built so many different rods of various styles.
But quality is our number one driving goal! It's the real reason we builds tackle ourselves instead of mass producing it. I firmly believe that there are no mass produced rods that are comparable to ours in quality, finish, or fishability. I'm a licensed guide and I guarantee you will not find a better made rod!
The Custom Building Process Custom rods are a partnership. All we need is a little information and we can get started spec'ing out a rod. We consider the following factors when designing a rod for you. What type of fishing you do?
Live Bait? Plug? Fly? Jig? Trolling? Bottom Fishing?
What pound test do you use? What size reel will you use? Where do you fish? (sometimes this matters, sometimes it doesn't). What species of fish do you catch? Want to catch? Does the rod have to travel? Should it be a two, three, or five piece rod? What about color options? Do you have any preferences about line guides, reel seats, etc.? Do you want fancy and flashy or simple and subdued?
We'll evaluate your answers, work up a design, spec out the rod, provide you with a quote, and build it!

Examples of Finished Work The rods shown below are rods that I tend to build the most of and serve as examples of my work.
12 Weight Tarpon Rod American Tackle Blank, REC Recoil Snake Guides, Titan Titanium Stripper Guides, and a custom crafted carbon fiber fighting and rear grips.
How did I get into rod building? One of my Dad's hobbies was and still is building custom rods. So rod building just seemed as natural as learning to fish. I built my first rod, a 7.5 foot 5 weight fly rod, at about age 14 and I never stopped. Today I would say I've built several hundred rods and can't count how many I've repaired.
